Cycling

    • Cycling

Cycling isn’t just an ideal way to improve fitness, it’s also a fun way to help raise the funds needed by Shine to maintain essential services.

You could take part in an organised cycle challenge or start your own event.

A sponsored cycle ride can be anything from going once around the park to cycling from London to Paris. You can cycle alone or with friends, for a week or just for an hour, whatever your ability there are plenty of ways to get involved.

If you don’t have the time to go on a long sponsored cycle then why not go the distance in the local gym on an exercise bike? Simply work out the distance you want to cycle, perhaps the distance of the Tour de France (3295km in 2011), and then cycle it in stages each time you go to the gym.

If you aim to complete your ride in a certain time you can then work out how far you need to cycle each day or each week, which will help keep you on target. You could even talk to your gym about promoting the event, perhaps by displaying a progress bar or encouraging others to join in.

If you would like to organise a sponsored cycle ride then the fundraising team is here to support you throughout the process and can provide you with sponsor forms, literature and all the help you need to help you raise as much as possible.

Challenge Cycling

If organising your own event seems too daunting, or you want to take part in a big established event, then you can still get involved and cycle for Shine.

Organised cycle rides allow you to be part of a fantastic adventure without having to deal with organisational issues on top of your on-going training and commitments.

The organisers provide you with support and assistance during your preparations and during the event, taking the worry out of doing an event such as this. Taking part in a challenge cycle ride is an opportunity to join lots of other people in an event you will always remember.

It is not for the fainthearted and requires considerable training before the event, but with the right preparation anyone can take part.
