Fit for Success
Fit for Success – Shine’s exciting scheme to help people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus make the best of their health and fitness.
Fit for Success! was unveiled at the September 2009 AGM at Peterborough United football ground by Shine Patron, Danny Mills.
He was joined by Shine’s new Patron, EastEnders actor David Proud, who has spina bifida.
The campaign is also backed by a host of well-known paralympians and top level athletes.
Shine Chief Executive Jackie Bland said:
“Staying fit and healthy is one way to getting the best out of life when living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Many people with these conditions achieve outstanding success as athletes.
“We want to support all those people with spina bifida/hydrocephalus who want to achieve more in terms of their health and fitness - from small changes such as eating a healthier diet to training for a major event.
“And we want to make sure that Shine is there all the way cheering on our 2012 paralympians."
Fit for Success! has three main aims:
1. Supporting high profile athletes to overcome any barriers they may encounter.
2. Encouraging and supporting more people with spina bifida/hydrocephalus to engage with sport and physical activity and achieve personal goals.
3. Promoting physical activity and good health throughout Shine’s membership.
