Carer Allowance

Carer's Allowance is paid at a standard rate, currently set at £55.55 a week (April 2011/12).

You may qualify for a Carer's Allowance if:
 
• You are 16 years old or over
• You  look after someone for at least 35 hours a week
• The person you look after receives a qualifying disability benefit
• You work and do not earn more than £100 a week, (this figure is revised every April)
• You do not get one of a list of other benefits
• You live in the UK when you claim Carer's Allowance
• You are not a full-time student. This is defined as supervised studying for 21 or more hours per week
