Bella Bear Illustrator, Alice Wood

Bella book illustrator Alice Wood grew up in Wimborne, Dorset. She went to Camberwell College of Art in London, and then Cambridge School of Art where she studied for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration.

Alice has had two picture books published and worked on various illustration projects. She is also a toymaker and member of the British Toymakers Guild.

Alice says:

“Ever since I was a small child or 6 or 7 I wanted to be an artist. I absolutely loved books and reading. I was always drawing pictures of my favourite characters and scenes.

“I have really enjoyed drawing Bella, and getting to know more about her world, her family and friends, and the challenges she faces. She is great fun to draw. I started by making lots of pencil drawings in my sketchbook, working out what Bella would look like, and trying to get to know her.

“I tried to make the bears look quite like the existing Benny illustrations, which are just brilliant, but with a nostalgic twist to give them an air of classic children’s illustrations. I also like to put fun little details into the pictures. I hope you like them, and will enjoy reading all about Bella and her adventures."
