Educating your professionals...

Here at Shine, we know that you are the expert in your condition.

We asked our members what they wanted us to focus on during Spina Bifida Awareness Week and many of you told us that you need the professionals in your life to understand you and your conditions much better.

This year, we've made that our priority.  By working together, we can educate professionals about spina bifida, making it easier to get access to the support and services you need, where you need them, when you need them.

This Spina Bifida Awareness Week, #BeTheExpert and click below for useful tools and information to share with your professionals.

As well as new tools to help get your needs across to carers and professionals in school, work, health and housing, we've added lots of new resources to our website so they can easily access everything they need.

What is spina bifida?

Spina bifida literally means ‘split spine’. A fault in the development of the spinal cord and surrounding bones (vertebrae) leaves a gap or split in the spine. The spinal cord does not form properly, and may also be damaged.
