Whether you’re new to fundraising or a seasoned expert, follow these simple steps to get you started:

Pick

Decide what you want to do.  Pick something that would be a personal challenge for you or that you love to do. Think about who you would be asking to support you and how they could get involved. Stuck for inspiration? Take a look at our A-Z for ideas.

Plan

Think about how and when you want to raise money plus what your fundraising target is. Also, consider if you need to ask permission if you are using a public place or business. You can also download lots of fundraising materials from this fundraising hub. Your regional fundraiser can help with advice and support and can send additional fundraising materials such as collection tins through the post.

Promote

Tell everyone what you’re doing and why. Social media channels are quick and easy ways to share details and will be shared wider than your own contacts.  Consider contacting your local media.

Pay it in

If you’ve set up an online fundraising page, your donations will already be with us. If you’ve collected them yourself then there are plenty of ways to bank the money.

Handy to know...

  • JustGiving pages with a fundraising target raise at least 40 % more money.
  • Ask your employer or another local business if they can match your fundraising total.
  • Gift Aid allows Shine to claim 25p for every £1 that is donated by UK taxpayers. That’s a whole 25% on top of what you raise! Make sure that when people donate, they complete the Gift Aid declaration on your JustGiving page or sponsor form.
