Thank you for your interest in supporting Hydrocephalus Awareness Week

Hydrocephalus Awareness Week is a great opportunity not only to fundraise to help Shine continue to provide specialist advice and support services to the hydrocephalus community, but also to amplify our voices in raising awareness.

Hats On for Hydrocephalus

You can support Shine this year by holding a Hats On for Hydrocephalus event on (or around) Friday 13th March 2026.

It’s as easy as 1,2,3!

  1. Pick a day and wear your favourite headgear. You can get your school, work colleagues, friends and family involved too!
  2. Choose a suggested amount and ask each person for a donation. Simply set up a JustGiving page to collect your donations online. Set up your JustGiving page here or get in touch for advice.
  3. Or, donate your funds to Shine by donating online here. Other ways of donating can be found here

Get active!

You could complete 10,000 steps a day, a certain distance during the week or complete 10 minutes of movement every day! Whatever your fitness and ability, come up with your own active challenge to support Shine during Hydrocephalus Awareness Week.

Whatever you choose to do, our friendly fundraising team are ready to help you, get in touch and let us know your plans.

Be creative!

If you have a bit more time to spare, get creative this Hydrocephalus Awareness Week. Whether you knit hats and sell them to friends for a suggested donation, or challenge yourself to crochet seven hats during the week, the choice is yours. We would love to see what you create!

Why we need your support

“I can never thank this Shine Facebook Group enough as they were and have been a massive help to me - by helping me to understand what living with hydrocephalus means. The support I have been given has been amazing, and I soon realised that life was going to be different”.

Heather Hughes' life changed forever when she was 51 years old. In 2019, whilst out with family, she felt an enormous pain in the back of her head. She fell unconscious and had to have surgery on her brain - this left her with hydrocephalus and needing a VP shunt. She had never heard of hydrocephalus and was not sure how this would affect her life. Find out more by clicking on the button below.
