Written by our expert health team, Shine’s resource packs for parents and families of children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus cover a wide range of issues from birth to age 12.
Spina bifida literally means ‘split spine’. A fault in the development of the spinal cord and surrounding bones (vertebrae) leaves a gap or split in the spine. The spinal cord has not formed properly, and may also be damaged.
A build up of fluid on the brain, hydrocephalus can have a range of physical and cognitive effects. Click here to learn more about the condition, how it occurs and its many different forms.

Integra LifeSciences developed their own Hydrocephalus microsite, containing lots of useful information, as well as an interactive kids corner where fans of Benny Bear can read his stories, do jigsaw puzzles and download colouring sheets.
