Shine has welcomed the newest member of its team, Dr Anne Rice, as its Community Fundraiser for Northern Ireland.

Anne graduated with a Master of Science in Communications in 1997 and since then has enjoyed a professional career spanning two decades. She has managed an extensive number of projects including emigration research, art therapy research and various community projects, and has been a guest lecturer at Queens University Belfast since 2014.

Anne, from Kilkeel, Co Down, is the author of several academic publications and was awarded her PhD from Queens University's School of Planning in 2014 for the examination of youth social capital and wellbeing in rural Northern Ireland. Anne's other work currently involves the expansion of public legal education for young people in Northern Ireland.

Anne is also mum of five, four boys and a girl, ranging in age from 11-18, so has an extra busy life as she fits in visits to watch their sporting and music activities.

Anne says: “I have been very fortunate to have achieved personal goals in my life, including my PhD and research... Although I had no previous connection with Shine, I really felt this new role would be an opportunity to give something back, and enable more people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus to achieve their goals in life too. I hope to use my people, marketing and writing skills to breathe fresh life into the work and help to get Shine’s name out there. This doesn’t feel like work though – it feels like a joy!”

For more on how you can get involved, including events such as the Belfast Marathon coming up in May, contact Anne on 07710 154792 or email or via Facebook.
