The charity Shine has welcomed Rachel Coombs as its new Community and SME Fundraiser, South-West.

Hailing from Andover, Hampshire, Rachel will be working with schools, organizations and corporations in Hampshire and the southwest to raise significant funds for Shine.

Rachel brings broad fundraising experience, having worked with a range of charities in the USA and UK, including the NSPCC, National Autistic Society and UNICEF. Latterly, she was Events Fundraiser at Enham Trust and currently volunteers as a Race Director at junior parkrun in Andover - a 2 kilometre run for 4-14 year olds.

Rachel, a parent with a 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter, enjoys keeping fit, running, and time out with the family in the lovely countryside in Hampshire.

Formerly a PE teacher in London, Rachel has run the London Marathon twice – the second time only ten months after her son was born, and it proved life-changing. She explains:

“It was while running the marathon, on behalf of a local good cause, that I first made the connection with charity and decided to change career.

“Fundraising gives me a buzz – it’s a great way to make a tangible difference.

“I am looking forward to working together to make a real impact in raising support for people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.”

The charity, Shine, which has more than 11,500 members, will be revealing plans this summer to increase support and access to better services for people with the conditions.
