One Way You Can Crush Your Fears

A young woman from Lincolnshire will soon be facing her deepest fear - by falling through the sky.

Aimee Bilham aims to conquer her fear of heights by taking on a Skydive in aid of the charity Shine.

Daring Aimee, 35, from Gedney Hill, will jump from more than 10,000 feet in April, in memory of her sister Raphael who had spina bifida. The Skydive, originally planned for February, had to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.

Aimee, a personal assistant/carer, proud mother of 2 and animal lover (the family have 6 rescue dogs and 2 chameleons!) has faced personal challenges before, having successfully lost 11 stone in weight.

Speaking of the Skydive, Aimee says: “I have always been afraid of heights, so wanted to challenge my fears, to do something worthwhile.

“When my mum had my sister the treatment of spina bifida was very little known.

“Research and treatment into the illness has progressed so far, and that's why it's so important to continue to fundraise for further research and support for families.”

Taking on a challenge can be a great way to overcome fears, have fun and raise funds for a great cause. Lyn Dann [pictured skydiving], who did a skydive for Shine for her 60th birthday, says:

“It was the most incredible thing I have ever done. The company I did the dive with were amazing. They kit you up and take you through safety procedures and explain exactly what will happen.

“At the briefing I was physically shaking, but at no point did I ever think I can't do this. We climbed to 15000 feet then the door opens and out you jump, it happens all too quickly and before you know it you are gently floating back down to the landing spot.

I would recommend anyone to experience a skydive. I can't wait to do another one.”
