"We were absolutely clueless about everything. The internet was our go to place for any information, which at times, was a very scary read. After Dara got his shunt, it was Mr McConnell (our Neurosurgeon), that encouraged us multiple times to register for Shine."
"In so many ways. From the first day Dara got his bear in the post, Shine have made us smile. We were contacted almost straight away after registration, which really surprised me, I didn’t think a charity would have been that local or hands on. We were invited to a Mr Hullabaloo show in Lurgan, which was absolutely amazing. During that day, Laura, our support and development worker, enlightened us to so many things that Dara was eligible for e.g. statements, blue badge etc. - things we would never have thought about.
Since then, Laura has always been a phone call, text or email away. Shine really is an amazing support. One of the best things we have experienced from Shine, was the amazing physio support that Dara received, it really helped him. Then if it couldn’t get any better, they put on the most amazing Christmas parties and it is here where Dara’s siblings can see that their brother isn’t the only person with this condition."
