Spina Bifida Awareness Week 2021 - Gary and Jean's Story

17th October 2021

Gary and Jean's Story...

"Shine has been there all throughout Gary’s life and I just want to do what I can to help Shine as I’m so grateful."

Gary has been a member of Shine since birth. He has spina bifida, and he and his mum are very appreciative of the support Shine has given them over the years. This has included; helping Gary get his first independent flat, helping with continence care and products, assisting him through the PIP process and re-assessment, enabling him to access grants to buy much needed items such as a mattress and washer dryer.

During a recent illness, Gary’s mum, Jean aged 80, decided that to help her get through her treatment she would start making jewellery to sell in our Shine charity shop in Gorseinnon, Swansea to raise funds for Shine.

She says: “Shine has been there all throughout Gary’s life and I just want to do what I can to help Shine as I’m so grateful.”
