Hydrocephalus Awareness Week 2022 - Yragael's Story

7th March 2022

Yragael's Story...

"I have loved joining the various Shine online quizzes and online events. They really have been indispensable during the pandemic."

What was life like before you received support from Shine?

"I have been involved with Shine on and off for many years now. My mother first joined when I was little as she wanted support and information on having a child with a disability. Then when I finally went to mainstream school in my teens they were able to offer me sessions of counselling to help me cope with the various teenage issues I had."

How has Shine supported you?

"When I went, I finally went to mainstream school in my teens and Shine were able to offer me sessions of counselling to help me cope with various teenage issues I had.

I have had recent support from Shine Support and Development worker Debi with an OT assessment referral and Social Coffee groups online since the start of the pandemic lockdown to now.

I have also received advice for employment seeking, help to build my CV and for using my local gym.

I got back in touch with Shine seriously after speaking to the Health Development Manager, Gill, at the Chelsea and Westminster spina bifida clinic. I occasionally attend the Shine Blue Blobbers events which are always fun to meet new and old friends.

Recently, I have loved joining the various Shine online quizzes and online events. They really have been indispensable during the pandemic."
