Supporting one another

“Your support network is the solid ground from which you can propel yourself upwards.”
Anna Barnes, How To Be Resilient Peer Support Volunteers

Supporting one another

Our peer-to-peer support volunteers provide a listening ear for members who have similar conditions.  They are able to recognising issues that may affect Shine members with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and offer support based on their own experiences and / or refer them to Shine staff for information, support and advice i.e via our Health Team.
Molly has been a Peer Support Volunteer & Shine Ambassador for many years.
Her counselling background makes her an excellent peer support volunteer and she has also supported us with grant applications by providing her unique insight into how Shine has helped her.

She is always looking for innovative ways to help shine and other members and we are lucky to have her on our volunteer team.  Molly’s band also collect donations on a regular basis for Shine during their band practice night at a local pub.
Molly says ‘ I feel it is really important to help others who may be going through what I went through before I met Shine’.

If you would like to find out if there are any volunteering opportunities in your area for Shine please call 01733 555988 or email firstcontact@shinecharity.org.uk
