Trustees

Being a Shine Trustee is a hugely rewarding opportunity and plays a key role in the functioning and success of the charity. Our trustees are a group of people that are passionate about developing ideas, activities and policy priorities that will help us to achieve our goals.

Shine is very grateful for the dedication, expertise and support from our Trustees, one of whom is Greg Smith, our Chair. He says:

“Being a Shine Trustee is a hugely rewarding opportunity and the Board of Trustees plays a vital role in the governance and success of the charity. Our trustees are from a diverse range of backgrounds, each bringing key skills and life experiences to Shine with a passion for shaping Shine's strategies and policy priorities that will help us to achieve our vision.”

Greg joined the board of Shine in May 2013 and was Vice-Chair from 2016, and has now taken on the role of Chair. As someone with the life experience of spina bifida, he relishes an opportunity to contribute to the charity, with a personal goal very aligned with Shine’s vision of 'no barriers to meeting our members’ potential for purposeful & fulfilling lives, equal to any other citizen.

Prior to running his own user experience strategy & research consultancy, Greg has held senior leadership positions across a range of private and public sector organisations, including Head of User Experience Design & Research for Europe at eBay inc., Director of User Research at LBi (now Digitas) and Head of Strategy, Business Planning, Research & Evaluation at the former Disability Rights Commission.
He holds an MSc in Human-Computer Interaction and a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Engineering & Business Studies.

Greg’s particular areas of expertise on the board include digital user experience design & research, disability rights strategy, and leadership of global & remote teams with £million+ budgets.
