Fundraising
9th August 2024
Whether it’s about living with your condition or how you have helped fundraise for Shine, we love hearing from you. Shine Stories is a great way to share your experience and inspire others to support Shine by fundraising, volunteering, as well as campaigning for us and raising awareness of the conditions and the support we can provide.
If you would like to share your own story contact us by emailing marketing@shinecharity.org.uk.
The McCrum family own three nurseries in Northern Ireland called Little Rays. Ashleigh gave birth to a baby with spina bifida in 2022 and all the nurseries have taken part in lots of fundraising activities as well as their local football team raising around £10,182.30 for Shine!
Watch a round up here of their fundraising activities here.
Why did you choose Shine?
My son Charlie has Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele.
How has Shine helped you?
Shine was there for support and information whenever my husband and I needed it. We had a contact number directly to Marie from Shine in Northern Ireland and she was unbelievable, she helped us through that time of our lives where we felt very lost and had so many fears about what the rest of our pregnancy would entail and life with a child with spina bifida. Marie also linked us in with other parents who had been through the same as us and who we wouldn’t have had the chance to speak to if it wasn’t for Marie and Shine.
What types of fundraising did you do?
Little Rays did bun sales, fun days, raffles, guess the name for the bear, a small team ran a 13km tough mudder course. Dunmurry Rec Football Club also ran a family fun day, night at the races and bingo.
