On 29th July 2024, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the government would, from this winter, restrict Winter Fuel payments only to pensioners claiming means tested benefits, such as Pension Credit. Previously it had been paid to all pensioners regardless of income or capital.
For Winter 2024-2025, the Winter Fuel Payment is a one-off payment valued at £200 to households receiving pension credit or £300 to households in receipt of pension credit with someone over the age of 80. The payment will also be available for pensioners receiving universal credit, income support, income-based jobseeker’s allowance or income-related employment and support allowance.
Payments are sent out automatically to eligible claimants.
If you were born on or before 22nd September 1958 and are not already receiving Pension Credit and would like to see if you are entitled, please ring Shine’s First Contact on 01733 555988 or email firstcontact@shinecharity.org.uk. Your Shine Support and Development Worker will then contact you within 2 weeks to complete a benefit check for Pension Credit and anything else you might be eligible for e.g. Attendance Allowance.
Please note: if you are of pension age but your partner is not, you cannot claim Pension Credit.
To help complete the benefit check please have details of your / your partners current income, savings and rent details to hand where possible.
