Shine recognised as 200th member of Remember A Charity

27th October 2017

Shine is delighted to announce that it has been welcomed as the 200th member of the legacy consortium, Remember A Charity.

The consortium campaigns to increase legacy giving as a lasting way to support good causes, and to make it easier for anyone who wants to leave a gift in their will.

On hearing the news, Shine CEO, Kate Steele, said:

"By being part of the ‘Remember a Charity’ campaign, Shine will be part of a movement to grow our legacy giving now and into the future, working alongside fellow charities to raise awareness and promote the importance of gifts in wills to our supporters and the wider public. Shine is delighted to be recognised as the 200th member! Such high membership is testament to the faith that the third sector has in the work of Remember a Charity, and recognition of the importance and potential to grow legacy giving for the benefit of so many.”

Kate continued: "A gift in wills to Shine, however large or small, is a legacy to future generations, supporting people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, and an investment towards preventing Spina Bifida in years to come.

“The future often seems so far away, but as a charity with over 50 years of history, we know how quickly the years pass... As Shine grows and changes in the years ahead we need to ensure the valuable work we do continues for as long as our members need us. Promoting and securing legacy giving is vital to this.”

According to the consortium, 74% of the British public support a charity during their lifetime, but less than 7% include a gift to them in their Will.
