Two staff members from our fabulous Health Team have taken on the Edale Skyline Challenge for Shine and conquered it!
Lindsey and Jenny took on the Peak District - Edale Skyline Challenge for Shine at the end of May. At 22 miles, the Edale Skyline is certainly no walk in the park!
Here's what they had to say about their experiences:
Lindsey:
"It was a great experience completing the Edale Skyline Challenge for Shine. As Shine staff, we see the difference money raised makes to our members, and I was keen to do my bit!
Lots of training and preparation went into it, and we had a fantastic day! Perfect weather and amazing views to keep us going - 10 and a half hours later, we had achy legs but still smiling! We even managed to make a professional connection along the way. Thank you to those who sponsored us."
Jenny:
"I was so pleased to be able to take part in such a tough fundraising challenge for Shine. Working for the charity means I know for sure that the money will be used well. Training was tough; I battled sore and swollen joints, fatigue, COVID, some gnarly blood blisters, and a scary experience with marauding cattle.
The most challenging part was losing my lovely dog Roger, whom I had been pushing along in his buggy for training walks. I carried his tag with me on the Edale hike, and its lovely clinking sound kept me going.
It was a challenging but brilliant day in the beautiful Peak District; we could probably have finished in under 10 hours if I hadn't stopped to cuddle every dog we saw! I'm grateful to my walking buddy Lindsey, who supported me throughout. Many thanks to everyone who kindly sponsored us, every donation really does help."
