Awareness Week 2018 - Ashish's Story

24th October 2018

Ashish's Story...

I have been a member of shine now for 4 years having previously been a member of ASBAH in my early childhood. For me one of the main reasons of me joining Shine was to integrate with other people of around the same age range & disability, as I found myself in a situation where apart from my work colleagues (non-disabled & older) I had no one that fully understood things from my angle in my life.

Since joining Shine I have made many new friends whilst also reacquainting myself with people from either my primary school or boarding school as well as people my days at a residential college.

I am a member of  the ‘Blue Blobbers’ which is a London based social group for London based members We met once a month somewhere in London (pre-selected). Through the group I’ve learnt how to travel independently and competently on trains and London Underground, which has been a major advantage to me.

Reflecting back over the years of being a member of this wonderful charity, I only wish I had been informed of their existence a few years earlier.  Just being a part of the organization has meant so much to me as I’m now not leading a life behind my own four walls on a daily basis.

Without Shine I’m sure I would not be as confident about my life as I am now.

Shine offers an excellent service to its members.
