Arrange your own event

If you are considering fundraising for Shine, here are some ideas that we can help support you with. Please get in touch with us to find out how we can help support your event.

Safety first - Virtual event ideas...

The COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide restrictions continue to put a stop to many of the most common fundraising activities, but we can still be together, even when apart.

When you can’t be with your friends and family, one way to feel connected is by holding a virtual event.

Whether a quiz, games night, kitchen disco or coffee morning, set up a video call using a free platform such as zoom, and invite your friends and family to come along in return for a donation to Shine.

To boost your fundraising total, you could include popular party games - higher or lower and charades work just as well virtually as in person - or hold a competition, rewarding the best fancy dress costume or most fabulous outfit

For some more traditional ideas, many of which can be easily adapted to online/virtual events, keep reading for more inspiration.

Get baking

Cake for a cause? Now that's a diet we can get behind!

Whether you're baking it or buying it, a bake sale is a fantastic way to raise funds for Shine. Get your friends together, get your children’s school involved, ask your work colleagues, or just have a few friends around for dessert and do-gooding. It couldn't be easier, or more delicious!

Stuck for some inspiration? Why not check out Shine's Cookbook, packed full of scrummy recipes. (Psst, it makes a great present!)

It’s Party Time!

Everyone enjoys a party and you can hold a party at any time of year, to celebrate an anniversary, achievement or just to have fun.

What about an elegant cocktail party? A pizza and popcorn party? A special celebration?

Hold a Party for Shine and you'll be helping individuals and families affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus to get the vital support they need.

Need nibbles ideas? Why not check out our Shine Cookbook? There's a rumour going around that all the recipes are calorie-free... (*Psst* the cookbook makes an excellent present!)

Did you know there's a special Shine cocktail, made especially for us by the lovely people at The Lighthouse Pub in Oxford. Contact the fundraising team for the recipe!

Shine Bright Quiz

The Shine Bright Quiz is the perfect combination of ready-made fun and fundraising!

We’ve made it really easy by providing everything you need to run your own quiz. You could host it in the local pub, a local hall, at home, at work, or wherever you like.

We recommend a minimum per person donation of £3 and to boost your fundraising you could add a meal (and charge more!), hold a raffle or tombola, or perhaps sell cakes and sweets? Or, perhaps you’re going away with the family and need something for a rainy day, or you’ve invited friends round for a BBQ - let your imagination loose and jazz up your quiz event! You could also offer a token prize for the winning team, to encourage more participants to join in.

The Shine Bright Quiz is available as a pdf which we will send you - get in touch and we will send you everything you need to host your quiz event. (If you aren’t on email or don’t have a printer at home, perhaps a kind friend, neighbour or family member would help you?) Alternatively, call the fundraising team on 01733 555988 for a pack to be posted out to you.

Wear Yellow and Shine!

Go loud, feel proud and wear yellow!

A fun and simple fundraiser to support everyone with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Hold a wear yellow event at your school, college, workplace, care home, nursery - it works anywhere! You can wear yellow, bake yellow, ride yellow, tattoo yellow, whatever works for you... Maybe add a touch of gold too?

And don’t forget to share your photos on our social media pages.
