About us

SHINE is the National Charity in England for children and adults with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. We provide specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with the conditions, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff.

Purpose of the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Project Worker with drive, enthusiasm and motivation to work with local, regional and national colleagues to deliver our ‘Little Stars’ Early Intervention Project (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) across the Northern Region.

The aim of the project is to improve the life chances of children, who are 10 years old or under with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, by promoting independence and providing them and their families with early intervention support.

Working with local and regional colleagues you will be responsible for delivering:

  • One to one proactive support delivered to beneficiaries at key life stages, coordinated with SDWs and health teams to ensure no cross-over.
  • An increased presence in multi-disciplinary clinics across England
  • Medical advice through our specialist health team and physiotherapist
  • Engagement with schools including producing/distributing resources, as well as raising awareness and undertaking school visits
  • A programme of local support groups and family outings in the Northern Region
  • Regional information sessions and events in the Northern Region
  • Referral and signposting of beneficiaries to other support networks outside of Shine, where appropriate

In return, Shine will offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • 3% pension contribution
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays + additional discretionary leave between Christmas and New Year
  • Support to learn and develop
