Special Appeals Telephone Fundraiser

Shine is seeking an enthusiastic, pro-active person with previous telephone fundraising or telesales experience and an excellent telephone manner to join our successful team!

Job Title: Special Appeals Telephone Fundraiser
Reports to: Head of Fundraising and Special Appeals
Hours: 35 hours a week Monday – Friday (part-time hours considered)
Location: Peterborough/Cambridgeshire – this post is hybrid with attendance at Peterborough office as required
Salary: OTE circa £28,000

Shine is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and confident communicator to join its successful telephone sales team. The role will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing supporters in order to maximise the income received by Shine. 
 
You will be joining our successful team who generate income through the sales of virtual balloons in 10 races each year.  These are operated through the www.shinevirtualballoonrace.com website. Aimed at businesses, each race runs over a week and the winner can choose from a selection of prizes. You will identify potential supporters and initiate contact via phone to assess their potential for support and engagement, whilst ensuring full compliance with policies and guidelines.

Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff.  Working throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Shine is a community of over 14,000 members. Together we share achievements, challenges, and information about life with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related issues.  Shine enables people to get the best out of life. 


As a Shine Telephone Fundraiser, you will be:

Principal duties
  • Develop new business by identifying potential new supporters, and initiating contact by telephone to assess potential for support and engagement 
  • Maintain positive relationships with existing supporters by telephone to ensure on-going support 
  • Maintain accurate database records, supply figures and manage data as required 
  • Maximise the number of quality contacts with supporters to achieve revenue potential  
  • Strive to always reach/exceed fundraising targets  
  • Act in compliance with all current fundraising, telesales and GDPR policies and guidelines 
  • Comply with Shine’s policies and procedures  
  • Other duties consistent with this role which may be required by management from time to time 
Knowledge, experience and attitude required
  • Highly motivated with telephone sales experience, with the desire to succeed 
  • Good interpersonal skills, including polite, warm, friendly telephone manner 
  • Good verbal skills and ability to produce good quality communications on behalf of Shine 
  • General IT literacy with good working knowledge of MS Office and Salesforce CRM database (desirable) 
  • Excellent level of English language  
  • Good timekeeping 
  • Ability to work from home  
  • A demonstrated commitment to hard work 
  • Honest, thorough and ethical approach to work 
  • Team player who can work on their own initiative to plan and manage their workload.
