Shine Health Hub

The Shine Health Hub provides a free, one-stop health check and advisory service for Shine members aged 16 or more.

The Hub offers all-round telephone and online support concerning spina bifida and hydrocephalus and related conditions, plus face-to-face health checks for members who are able to visit the health suite in Peterborough.

Shine’s health team includes specialists in nursing, mental wellbeing, continence management and occupational therapy.

Clinic facilities include wheelchair scales, blood pressure and pulse monitoring, and a bladder scanner to check for urinary problems which can cause incontinence, infections and kidney damage. The earlier problems can be spotted the sooner they can be treated and put right.

We can discuss any concerns you have, and ways to help, such as looking at activity planning or goal-setting. If it seems that you could benefit from further help, we can support you in contacting your GP, health professionals, or relevant organisations.

The Health Suite also has an adapted, wheelchair accessible kitchen area where you can try out useful equipment and adaptations to aid everyday independence.

To book an appointment contact us on 01733 555988 or click here to send us an e-mail.

Testimonials from our Shine members

“Coming here gives me confidence – it’s like having an MOT – you can have all your checks in one go. You are treated as a whole person, rather than in ‘bits’...”

“Some of us are getting older. We need to think about the future. There are things I need to do – I know I need to lose weight and strengthen my arms. Here you can get weighed. There is also a kitchen where you can try different equipment and practical tips, such as buying a new kettle so it doesn’t strain my shoulder.”

“There is a lack of information, knowing where to go for help. It helps to go through everything together here. Knowing you are not alone. Knowing where to get information. Knowing there is someone there. Even though things are tough you can cope. I can go home happy; I’m alright.”

"It was lovely great day all round - can't thank you guys enough - you have been really helpful and so understanding"
